Unifor Local 2000’s Office will be closed Thursday September 30 in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

As one of the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2015, the federal government, in collaboration with First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples were called upon to establish a statutory holiday to honour Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities.

This holiday gives the public a chance to recognize and commemorate the intergenerational harm that residential schools have caused to Indigenous families and communities, and to honour those who have been affected by this injustice.

If you wish to know more about the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action, please visit Truth and Reconciliation calls to action.

We encourage everyone to use this day to learn, listen and reflect on our shared history and its impacts on Indigenous peoples.

In solidarity,

Brian Gibson
President
