The Unifor Legal Services Plan was created to provide quality personal legal services at affordable prices to eligible members of Unifor and their spouses and dependents.

“The Legal Services Plan is a negotiated benefit for Unifor members. If your contract doesn’t include the Legal Services Plan please make sure it’s a priority in your next round of bargaining,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National President.

The Plan is funded by General Motors of Canada Ltd., Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd., FCA Canada Inc., and other corporate sponsors. It is established in collective agreements negotiated between each employer/sponsor and Unifor, and is administered by an independently chaired board of trustees having equal representation from the union and the sponsoring companies.

Twenty-eight bargaining units now have the Legal Services Plan as a benefit in their collective agreements. Unifor is encouraging locals and bargaining committees to be part of this excellent legal benefit plan for members by adding it to collective bargaining proposals.

The Unifor Legal Services Plan has labour-friendly lawyers who provide such services  as wills, powers of attorney, real estate, tenant’s rights, family law, civil litigation, criminal motor vehicle and much more at subsidized rates. The Plan’s lawyers are available to serve members and put the interest of members first. The plan also will work with lawyers in regions where none of the Legal Services Plan lawyers are available.

Local unions without the benefit should consider negotiating the plan into their collective agreements during the next round of bargaining.
