After turning down the first tentative agreement on May 6, the Union and Company proceeded to mediation at the BC Labour Relations Board on June 17 and 18 coming to a mediated settlement on the 18th to present to members.  A ratification vote was held Friday, June 21 and the members ratified their first collective agreement by 90%.
“it’s been about a year since this group certified with us, so it has been a long road.  I want to thank the bargaining committee for their guidance and support during this process,” said Brian Gibson, President of Unifor Local 2000.  ” I also want to thank the members for their support and look forward to working with them during the life of this agreement”, Gibson added.
One of the main challenges during negotiations was trying to find a solution to a wide wage gap between members.  While not perfect, this collective agreement works towards reducing those gaps. The agreement expires June 30, 2021.
