Unifor 2000 been in negotiations with SpeeDee Print Solutions in Prince George for a number of months.  The employer presented a final offer to members in June, to which members voted it down 100% on June 20.

In that meeting, members were clear that with the pressures of inflation, getting a wage increase was a top priority for them.

“I was hearing from the members how the price of gas, rent and groceries is really concerning and that wage gains were very important for them,” said President Brian Gibson.

After informing the company that the final offer was voted down, we resumed bargaining on July 26. A tentative agreement was reached and signed off on July 27.

A ratification meeting was held on Aug. 8 with a vote commencing right after the meeting online using Simply Voting, which closed at noon on Aug. 9.

The members ratified the agreement with a three (3) year term. In essence, there were wage increases and no other changes in the contract. Members will see a 3% wage increase at ratification with 20 weeks of retroactive pay for qualified members.

They will see further increases of 40 cents per hour on Jan. 1, 2023 and 45 cents per hour on Jan. 1, 2024.

“These increases represent about a 1.75% increase for higher classifications and about 2.25% for lower classifications” said Gibson.

“I want to thank all the members at SpeeDee Print Solutions for their involvement and support during this round of negotiations,” said Gibson. “I also want to thank Unifor National Representative Jon Hawkins for his assistance with this round of bargaining.

Kyle Flannagan took over SpeeDee on Jan. 1 from original owner David George. He’s young and new to the printing business, but really wants it to succeed.
