The Canadian Association of Journalists and the Canadian Journalism Foundation released a new report, Poisoned Well, following a roundtable discussion on the growing problem of online harassment in the media industry.

Jennifer Moreau as Unifor’s media council chair, and Unifor member/Toronto Star internal ombud Shree Paradkar was a prominent discussant.

“It’s very easy to stand up for your star journalists on Twitter or Facebook… But it’s often the people that don’t have the star power who are also at the receiving end of this abuse and actually require more of that support,” Paradkar told the panel.

“We see this as a health and safety issue, but it’s more than that. It’s also an equity issue, … and it’s a press freedom issue,” Moreau said.
