Members to vote next week on Black Press rollover

A proposal to roll over the existing Black Press Lower Mainland collective agreement will go to a membership vote next week.
The four-year rollover would see wage increases of:

  • 0% on April 1, 2010
  • 0% on April 1, 2011
  • 1% on April 1, 2012
  • 2% on April 1, 2013

The rollover would also include adding a third year to the Shipper/Receiver (Abbotsford) grid that would mean a small immediate wage increase and fixing of commission language for a Hope sales rep. In addition there would be some changes in manning at the Abbotsford pressroom (with two voluntary buyouts offered), splitting of the Tri-Cities composing room board into three separate boards and removal of a letter of agreement that affected calculation of overtime for editorial employees in Langley.
Information and background regarding the rollover was provided at a series of membership meetings held Oct. 2.
You will be asked the question “Are you in favour of accepting the tentative agreement? Yes or No.
If a majority of the membership votes in favour of the new contract, it will take effect immediately. If a majority of the membership votes no to the new contract, the regular bargaining process will begin.
Voting, which must be done in person,  will take place at each work site at a designated day and time as follows:

  • Sunday Oct. 16, 10 a.m. — Abbotsford Pressroom
  • Monday Oct. 17, 9 – 9:30 a.m. —Tri-Cities
  • Monday Oct. 17, 10:30 – 11 a.m. — Maple Ridge
  • Monday Oct. 17, 11:45 – 12:15 p.m. — Mission
  • Monday Oct. 17, 1 – 1:30 p.m. — Abbotsford
  • Monday Oct. 17, 2:30 – 3 p.m. — Chilliwack
  • Monday Oct. 17, 4:30 – 5 p.m. — Hope
  • Monday Oct. 17, 7 – 7:30 p.m. — Abbotsford Bindery
  • Wednesday Oct. 19, 9 – 9:30 a.m. — Langley
  • Wednesday Oct. 19, 10:15 – 10:45 a.m. — Surrey Classified centre
  • Wednesday Oct. 19, 11 – 11:30 a.m. — Surrey
  • Wednesday Oct. 19, 1 – 1:30 p.m. — Peace Arch
  • Wednesday Oct. 19, 2:30 – 3 p.m. — Richmond
  • Wednesday Oct. 19, 4 – 4:30 p.m. — Westender
  • Wednesday Oct. 19, 11 p.m. – Midnight — Campbell Heights Bindery
  • Friday Oct. 21, 9 – 9:30 a.m. — Burnaby
  • Friday Oct. 21, 11:45 a.m.– 12:15 —Bowen Island

Members who cannot vote at their work site may vote at another location listed above.
