GENERAL NEWS REPORTER
Kamloops This Week, a twice-weekly newspaper published in Kamloops, B.C., is looking for a general assignment reporter to join its newsroom.
The successful applicant will be a graduate of a recognized post-secondary journalism program or have past experience reporting for a community newspaper, will be extremely well-versed in CP Style and current events and will have their own vehicle.
The successful applicant will be able to quickly and efficiently pursue story assignments handed down by the editor, in addition to contributing to the newspaper’s story lists.
Knowledge of page layout using InDesign is required as page layout will be a significant part of newsroom duties. An ability to take photos and video, online skills and an understanding of the John Sawatsky style of interviewing are definite advantages.
This union position will likely entail a Monday through Friday shift and there will be occasions when night and weekend work is required.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 and is home to Thompson Rivers University.
The Tournament Capital of Canada is a three-hour drive from Vancouver, a 45-minute jaunt from Sun Peaks Ski Resort and boasts the warmest summers of any city in Canada and a climate that is as dry as Vancouver’s is wet.
Kamloops This Week competes with six local news radio stations and a local television station; therefore, a newshound of above-average ability is required.
