Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

Are you a journalist with an interest in criminal justice and civic affairs? If so, the Alaska Highway News has an immediate opening for a Multimedia Reporter to join our team in Northeast B.C.

Based out of Dawson Creek, the reporter will cover the courthouse, city hall, school board, community events and anything else newsworthy. The communities we serve are industrious and entrepreneurial, giving the reporter the chance to tell stories about the residents, businesses, and culture that make our region a great place to live and work. Our people are global resource industry leaders, have stood on Olympic podiums, and have gained international renown in their respective fields around the world.

This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Local Journalism Initiative. As an LJI journalist, your content will be shared widely across the Glacier Media network. It will also be made available to accredited media organizations for editorial use, and may appear across Canada.

Qualifications

The reporter will be versatile, energetic, sociable, and community-minded. They can integrate with ease, cultivate sources, and easily handle a mix of community news and challenging assignments on the big issues of the day. They can take eye-catching photos and have a keen interest in new media and social media storytelling.

Candidates must have a driver’s licence and reliable vehicle. Education in journalism and experience in daily or weekly newsrooms is an asset. The job includes evening and weekend work as required. We offer competitive wages and benefits, commensurate with experience.
